INposition is an Xtension to QuarkXPress that enables us to impose printing flats from within QuarkXPress, making it possible to eliminate the manual stripping of pages. INposition can use either Quark pages, EPS files or PS files to create impositions, which allows us to impose pages from any given application.
Imposition is the arrangement of individual pages in a book for the production of a press plate. This layout is set up such that when the group of pages are printed on large sheets, folded and trimmed, the pages are in the correct reading order and the book is ready for binding.

Not only does this save stripping time ("printer's spreads" would mean stripping half as many negatives), it is more accurate, and less prone to error.
For 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch booklets and smaller, we can print "4-up" negatives and only have to strip 1/4 of the film normally required. In addition, printing one 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 page requires us to print an 8-1/2 x 11 inch piece of film, but printing "4-up" requires not four 8-1/2 x 11's only an 11 x 18 piece of film.
